Disclaimer: Dates sweetened chocolate is sweetened with highly pulverized (till 18-20 microns) dried dates powder which is 90% sugar. At this micron size, when consumed in chocolate, dried dates powder behaves more like fruit juice rather than like whole fruit. Please read the mythbuster below before purchase.
MYTH: DATES SWEETENED CHOCOLATE CONTAINS NO ADDED SUGAR
Powdered dried dates (or dates sugar) is relatively unprocessed and has 90% sugar in it along with fiber and minerals. But to make chocolate, dates sugar, along with cocoa beans, undergoes heavy processing till it is reduced to 16-20 microns in size. For comparison, White Blood Cells, that flow freely in our bloodstream, are 12-17 microns in size. Therefore, at 18 microns, all sugar from dates sugar is freely absorbed in the bloodstream and causes blood sugar spike exactly like added sugar.
Henceforth, if some irresponsible marketer tries to sell dates sweetened chocolate to you claiming it has no added sugar, tell them you would go for whole dates instead!
